Tumbleweeds blew through the forum this week, which leaves me to wonder how fares the members of our good little community. With two weeks of relative inactivity, I am curious to see how everyone has been doing, and if the time away from has allowed for ideas, opinions or impressions to form about Ghosts of Eternity in general. If any have formed, please let me know, even if it's a criticism. The point of this game (and in effect, this blog) is for me to improve the product I am working on so it could be the best it possibly could be. And if you're worried that your character may be getting lost in the shuffle, have no worries for I intend to give each and ever one of you a chance in the spotlight!
Speaking of the story, the first chapter for the premiere novel of Ghosts of Eternity: Fire of the Sky has been posted in the Writer's Block section of the forum. Based off the first sessions of the Ghosts of Eternity game, Fire of the Sky follows Gael Everglaine, a young druid fresh from his years of study as he experiences an intruding vision during a religious ceremony. That same night, Alondra Sophronia, the heiress to an ancient and prestigious heritage sees an orb of fire streak the sky and crash close to the Barrador Mountains. When their paths meet and they and make for the site, Gael, Alondra and their allies will discover that there is truly more to their world than even they could imagine. As one could imagine, critiques and opinions are invited, encouraged and appreciated!
Not much has been happening in the realm of development at the moment, save for some old ideas that I'm kicking around since we've been slow as of late. While it's too late to implement this idea into the forum game, I have been working on how Background and Classes could serve as relevant game mechanics with respect to Skills and Knowledges. One common thing that I see many rpgs doing is that they divide their Background section into stages of growth, each of which has their own advantages, disadvantages, and set skills and talents that are awarded for following that path. I would like to implement something similar into Ghosts of Eternity, although I do not know if that would affect the Skills or Knowledges that a character would have. I'm inclined to think that the Background would affect given Skills, with Knowledges being affected by Classes. Classes, after all, are broad educations in a particular field that provides both practical and academic training. Let me know what you guys think or if you have any ideas!
In closing, I have a bit of a poll for you guys... if Ghosts of Eternity were to ever get a trailer, what would the song be and why? If you have a pick, be sure to put a link in the Comments and an explanation as to why!
For me, it would be Protectors of the Earth from Two Steps from Hell - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9DO1U1U5Rc, whereas Andy argues that Transformers EVO is his idea of the GoE song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DH5c0MhGK_Q. So tell us... what do you think?
That's all for now. Stay tuned next week for new developments and some new plans I've got in the works, along with a special thread on the forums!
